How soy supplements may affect breast-cancer genes

Taking soy protein supplements may lead to some concerning genetic changes for women with breast cancer, a new study suggests. In the study, half of 140 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer took soy protein powder and the other half took a placebo for between seven and 30 days before they had surgery to remove their cancer. The researchers compared tumor tissues from before and after surgery, and found changes in the expression of certain genes that promote cell growth among women in the soy group and that could potentially accelerate breast cancer progression.   Click Here to...

Want to lower your blood pressure? Add more soy or low-fat dairy to your diet. Partly replacing refined carbohydrates with foods or drinks high in soy or milk protein may help prevent and treat high blood pressure, according to a new study. Study participants who took a milk protein supplement had 2.3 millimeters of mercury (mmHg) lower systolic blood pressure, compared to when they took a refined carbohydrate supplement.
