New York County Bans Sale of Baby Bottles Containing Controversial Plastic Chemical BPA

Wednesday, March 04, 2009 Lawmakers in New York’s Suffolk County have voted to ban the sale of baby bottles made with a chemical that some studies have suggested is harmful to young children. The measure was passed Tuesday. It would ban the use of the chemical BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups sold for use by children under 4. Officials say that if the measure receives final approval it would be the first of its kind in the U.S. Similar measures are under consideration elsewhere, including the Washington state legislature. Connecticut Attorney General Says 6 Companies Agree to Remove Bisphenol-A From Baby Bottles

Thursday, March 05, 2009 Attorney general says six companies have agreed to stop manufacturing baby bottles that contain Bisphenol-A, a chemical some studies suggest may be harmful to infants. Attorneys general from Connecticut, Delaware and New Jersey sent letters last October to 11 companies, asking them to stop using the chemical. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says Avent, Disney First Years, Gerber, Dr. Brown, Playtex and Evenflow have agreed to the request.
