New Study: Mercury, Other Toxins May Cause Autism

Friday, November 7th, 2008

A new study was just published on the damaging effects of methylmercury on unborn children. It warns that mercury pollution and other environmental toxins may have caused neurological harm — including ADHD and autism — in up to 1-in-10 kids in the world, according to the website Science Daily. The study, published in the International Journal of Environment and Health, says that the methyl form of organic mercury (found in fish) can harm fetuses at levels that, until now, have been considered to be completely safe.

The finding “suggests that we should take a precautionary approach to this and similar compounds to protect unborn children from irreversible brain damage,” Science Daily writes. (more…)

Health Hazards of Mercury

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

By Eric Davis

In Greek mythology, Mercury is the fleet-footed messenger of the Gods. He was the cleverest of the Olympians, patron of translators and interpreters. He ruled over wealth, good fortune, commerce, fertility. . . and thievery. He brought the souls of the dead to the underworld, and was honoured as a god of sleep. As a physical substance in the living organism, however, mercury is the antithesis of the fleet-footed messenger’s finer qualities. In the body, mercury disrupts cellular function at all levels, robbing the body of health and escorting the victim to the underworld of neurological dysfunction.

Mercury is a powerful poison. Published research has shown that mercury, even in small amounts, is more toxic than lead, cadmium and even arsenic. Some of the most common signs and symptoms of mercury exposure include irritability, fits of anger, lack of energy, fatigue, low self-esteem, drowsiness, decline of intellect, low self-control, nervousness, memory loss, depression, anxiety, shyness/timidity and insomnia.

Vaccine Myths and Timelines

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

by Barbara Loe Fisher from nvic.org

There are two reasons why people perpetuate a lie, even if they are not the original creators of it. Some do it out of ignorance or carelessness. Others do it deliberately with full knowledge. Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether facts are falsified deliberately or out of ignorance. Whatever the case, it is important to set the record straight when distortion of facts perpetuate a lie, especially when the lives of human beings are at stake.

A June 3, Boston Globe OpEd authored by Paul Offit, M.D. is littered with factual errors that perpetuate pharmaceutical industry-created myths, which have been used for two decades to persuade Congress to pass laws shielding vaccine makers from liability for vaccine injuries and deaths, while giving drug companies huge financial incentives to develop vaccines and lobby for vaccine mandates. Offit blames parents of DPT vaccine injured children seeking financial support for their children for driving drug companies out of the vaccine business. He does this even though he knows perfectly well there are more drug companies producing childhood vaccines today than in 1982.

Vaccines or else: Parents blast order for schoolchildren

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

UPPER MARLBORO, Maryland (CNN) — A crowd of frustrated parents gathered on a chilly Saturday morning outside Prince George’s County Circuit Court to comply with an order from the school system to have their children vaccinated — or else.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Glenn Ivey, whose office began the effort, was at the courthouse to answer questions.

Judge C. Philip Nichols, who signed the letters threatening parents with jail or fines, said he felt the tactic worked.

“We got a thousand kids back in school just by sending one letter,” he said.

Environmental Mercury and Autism – Are Vaccines Still a Culprit?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

A new study released by The University of Texas demonstrated a clear connection between industrial mercury released and autism. Researchers studied Texas school district data and proximity of children to a mercury emitting site and found the prevalence of autism in the community was reduced the further away it was from the site.

Raymond F. Palmer said the study showed - for the first time in scientific literature - a statistically significant association between autism risk and proximity to the mercury source

Scary stuff. Parents and some in the medical field have, for some time, been concerned about mercury’s connection to autism. This of course led to questions about the mercury used as a preservative in childhood vaccines and its eventual removal…more or less. (more…)

Mercury Found in Western North Carolina

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

From the Charlotte Observer - High levels of toxic mercury have been found in walleye caught in the Western N.C. lakes of Santeetlah and Fontana, prompting a state health warning.

Mercury occurs naturally but is released into the environment by burning coal, such as in power plants. When it falls into water, it can accumulate in fish. Eating high-mercury fish over time can pose health risks, especially for children and developing fetuses.

N.C. health officials warned pregnant women, women who may become pregnant and children under 15 not to eat walleye from lakes Santeetlah and Fontana. Others should eat no more than one meal of the fish a week.

Health advisories exist for several freshwater fish species caught in the rivers of Eastern North Carolina, and for largemouth bass caught anywhere in the state. For more information: www.epi.state.nc.us/epi/fish or call the N.C. Division of Public Health at 919-707-5900.

Thimerosal Threatens Males More

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I found this post at ageofautism.com and found it very interesting.

Three Canadian researchers were experimenting with Thimerosal on mice for reasons having nothing to do with the vaccine mercury-autism debate. But they stumbled across the fact that Thimerosal was three times more toxic to male rats than female rats — “the first report of gender-selective toxicity of thimerosal.” Given the way it mirrors the gender differences in autism, this is a huge deal, even if preliminary. Below is the Geiers’ discussion of the study’s significance and HERE is a link to the study itself. As our AOA colleague Mark Blaxill says, “the facts tend to cluster around a good hypothesis.” — Dan Olmsted

Dr. Buttar Speaks - Thimerosal in Flu Vaccine? YES - Video Response

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

A week or so ago, we referenced a blog post by Ms. Marcella Piper-Terry on her blog entitled “Thimerosal in Flu Vaccine? YES” and it received quite a bit of attention.  It also received a rather lengthy reply from an Unknown blogger by the name of Skepacabra that runs some sort of Tabloid “News” type blog.  Skepacabra went on to call Dr. Buttar an anti-vaccine kook on his blog.  Dr. Buttar has done a video response to this mystery blogger and gives quite a bit of information about Thimerosal in Flu Vaccines which you can watch below.  Below that, I have also pasted Skepacabra’s reply that Dr. Buttar references in the videos.

Monitor Your Seafood Consumption and Choose Wisely

Friday, August 15th, 2008

By Dr. Rashid A. Buttar, D.O., FACAM, FAAPM, FAAIM

Media reports on the recent studies showing high levels of mercury in various types of seafood have succeeded in scaring people, but few if any of these articles have given people what they need most - sound advice.

Seafood consumption is crucial to the proper development.  Fish like trout, salmon and sardines are among the greatest sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are well-known for being great for the brain and heart.  In addition, many people enjoy eating fish beccause it can be flavorful, relatively light and low in saturated fat.  The seafood industry is also an important part of the US economy.

But we cannot and should not ignore the data. Mercury is a known neurotoxin and is the second most dangerous substance known to humankind. The government has long warned of the dangers of exposure to lead, which has been linked to lower IQ scores and other serious meladies. But there have been comparatively few studies on the health effects from mercury exposure. Still, the studies that have been done make clear that mercury must be avoided. (more…)

A Mother’s Opinion on the Mercury Vaccine Autism Link

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

My son was injected with 12.5 micrograms of mercury the day after he was born. According to our government, the maximum safe limit for his weight would have been 0.4 micrograms (that’s point four, a fraction of a microgram).

A Mother’s Opinion from the NewsObserver.

Regarding the July 9 article “Parents push fringe remedy for autism“:

I find it incredibly hypocritical for anyone to suggest that treating a child with documented (yes, parents test for metals first) heavy-metal toxicity with a drug approved by the FDA for treatment in lead poisoning is “unethical” and lacks “reason” when our own government approved and mandated newborns be injected with more mercury than the government itself claims is safe.

My son was injected with 12.5 micrograms of mercury the day after he was born. According to our government, the maximum safe limit for his weight would have been 0.4 micrograms (that’s point four, a fraction of a microgram). That was only the beginning of infusion of mercury for him. So when we found out, we tested and then chelated our son and saw major improvements in him as a result. (more…)
