Chicken McNuggets Contain Disturbing Additives

In response to reports that the ingredients may pose health risks, McDonald’s China claims that additives in its chicken McNuggets are “harmless”.

They said that the use of tertiary butylhydroquinone meets Chinese food safety standards. However, “the chemical is toxic to some extent,” according to Liu Qingchun, a nutritionist at the General Hospital of Armed Police Forces.

Bloomberg reports:

“McNuggets served in the U.S. also contain tertiary butylhydroquinone, a petroleum-based product, and dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent used in cosmetics and other goods.

McDonald’s Holdings Co. Japan also serves chicken with the additives”. (more…)

Fast food menus with calorie information lead to lower calorie selection

In a new study, the amount of calories selected by parents for their child’s hypothetical meal at McDonald’s restaurants were reduced by an average of 102 calories when the menus clearly showed the calories for each item.

This is the first study to suggest that labeled menus may lead to significantly reduced calorie intake in fast food restaurant meals purchased for children. (more…)

Corn Found As Key Ingredient In All Types Of Fast Food

 A new study has found that corn is the key ingredient in just about all types of fast food.The study was led by A. Hope Jahren from the University of Hawaii, along with colleague Rebecca Kraft.

For the study, they looked at 480 different types of food products from fast food chains.

The fast food chains included were made up of the three major chains in the fast food industry.

They were located in Boston, Baltimore, Denver, San Francisco, Detroit, as well as Los Angeles.

They carried out the study on the fast food by looking at how it was made, and its meat origins.
